Global Scholars Program
Connecting the world of science through education and partnerships
Active Partnership Agreement Between Home Institution and City of Hope
The Global Scholars Program welcomes international students and scholars from partnered institutions from around the world to our campus to learn, share and collaborate on scientific projects. Global Scholars must be representatives of our partnered institutions with a valid memorandum of understanding (MOU). All Global Scholars Program categories require an active MOU with the Global Scholar’s home institution except the BRIdGE Fellow category.
There are over 120 active partnership agreements between City of Hope and partnered institutions around the world that support participation in the Global Scholars Program.
Please contact us at GlobalScholarsProgram@coh.org to find out if your home institution has an active partnership agreement with City of Hope.
Active Employment or Student Status With Home Institution
Global Scholars must maintain an active relationship with their home institution throughout program participation at City of Hope. This can be in the form of active employment for professionals or active student status with active enrollment for students. The only exception is the BRIdGE Fellow category.
Global Scholar’s relationship with his or her home institution will determine the eligible program category.
If the Relationship is a Current Employee
Global Scholars who are current employees at City of Hope's partnered institutions and are coming to City of Hope as representatives of the home institution may qualify for the following Global Scholars Program categories:
Visiting Scholar
This category is for professionals in the field, including faculty, researchers, physicians, and other professionals, coming to collaborate on research projects or to conduct independent research at City of Hope
International Visiting Faculty
This is an exclusive category for faculty who are invited to join the Irell & Manella Graduate School of Biological Sciences (City of Hope’s graduate school) to teach, train and collaborate on research with the school.
If the Relationship is a Current Student
Global Scholars who will be coming to City of Hope as part of their academic degree completion must be actively enrolled at their home institution throughout their program participation period. Such applicants could qualify for the following Global Scholars Program categories:
Visiting Graduate Researcher
For students who are currently enrolled in a master’s or a doctorate degree program at a partnered institution
International Student Researcher Training Program Student
For students who are currently enrolled in a bachelor’s program at a partnered institution
Global Scholars are expected to be actively enrolled in an academic program at their home institution throughout their program participation period. The program participation end date must not exceed their anticipated degree completion date.
If the Relationship is a Recent Graduate
Global Scholars who have recently completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree program looking to gain more research experience in preparation for advanced degree programs including master's and Ph.D. programs may qualify for the following Global Scholars Program category:
BRIdGE Fellow
This program is intended for those who will apply for another degree program after completing the research training program. This is the only GSP category where applicants are not required to have a “home” institution.
City of Hope Faculty Sponsor
Most of our Global Scholars are representatives of partnered institutions with existing partnership agreements and collaborations with City of Hope. However, we also welcome individuals who are interested in pursuing research opportunities aligned with their specific research interests.
Individuals seeking program sponsorship are encouraged to reach out directly to our esteemed faculty members, who specialize in various areas of research, to discuss their research interests and possibilities for training and/or collaboration. Applicants may begin the application process once a City of Hope faculty agrees to their program sponsorship. To explore our research and the faculty profiles, please visit City of Hope's research page.
Every Global Scholar must have a City of Hope faculty sponsor to begin the application process. The International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) does not facilitate the placement of individuals with faculty sponsors.
